Welcome to Hochburg Castle Emmendingen

Location, location, location was also in earlier centuries the most important factor for castle construction projects. Presumably, this also influenced the Lords of Hachberg in the 11th century in their choice of residence. The second largest castle Badens is located on a hill and grants spectacular panoramic views of the adjacent foothills of the Black Forest and the Upper Rhine plain at Emmendingen. Former, this was an important strategic aspect and today a guarantor of enjoyable nature views.

Over the centuries, the medieval noble residence developed into one of the largest fortifications in Baden. You will find exciting information about the varied history of the castle and the everyday life of its inhabitants with an expert guide and a visit to the castle museum.

After so much history may be relaxed: Emmendingens romantic old town invites you to Baden specialties and Breisgau wines.
