The nature and bird sanctuary is impressive due to its rich flora and fauna: dragonflies buzz between the moor grass and newts hide in the protected waters. The Langenauer Ried offers a glimpse of rare bird species: lapwings and curlews nest here. The cheeky beaver also feels at home in the reeds, and its traces can be found everywhere. According to an old legend, however, someone else used to live here: a greedy lord of the castle, whose riches disappeared in the marshy soil of the reeds.
One of the largest and most modern waterworks in Europe - the state water supply - draws groundwater from over 200 wells in the reeds and prepares it for three million people. It is therefore worth visiting the interactive exhibition "Experience the groundwater world" with advance registration and taking a guided tour of the waterworks.
After the excursion, Langenau offers many places to stop for a break: from Michelin-starred cuisine to home cooking to international classics. At the nauBad you can relax in the water or in the sauna area. In the spring-rich city there are always shady spots near the water to linger. A cultural program at the Pfleghof that is well-known across the region rounds off your stay.
