Welcome to Villa Rustica Mehring

In the middle of Mehring stands a partially restored Roman villa estate. As rustic as it appears today, it once counted among the large and magnificent estates of the Trier region. It was naturally plastered and decorated with all sorts of beautiful décor. There were wall paintings and mosaics, and one can only marvel at the materials that were used. For example, green diorite from the imperial quarries in Upper Egypt, which was also found in the forecourt of the Trier Basilica. What kind of estate lords were there? And then the refined dining culture! People drank from small bronze cups and ate from dark blue plates adorned with golden vine motifs. A silver toothpick and ear spoon was used for personal grooming afterward. There was a separate water line for the bathing facility, which still feeds the village well today. Unfortunately, it is not accessible for viewing. But do visit Pölich. There, you will find a very similar Roman water line that can even be partially walked on.
