Welcome to Schriesheim

Not much has remained of the Strahlenburg, built around 1235, the landmark of Schriesheim. The striking 27 metre high keep, the rectangular palace with early Gothic windows and the protective ring wall have been preserved. Nevertheless, a visit to the castle grounds is worthwhile. The sublime location of the Strahlenburg Castle allows wide views of the Rhine plain and villages on the Neckar and Rhine.

Also worth a visit is the old town of Schriesheim with its idyllic alleys and winding streets. The historic town hall is home to what is probably the oldest tower clockwork in the German-speaking world. The Théo Kerg Museum is located in an old barn and serves as an attractive exhibition site for the works of the Luxembourg painter, graphic artist and sculptor who died in 1993.

The Anna Elisabeth visitor mine, a 500-year-old silver and vitriol mine, offers exciting insights into the underground world. During a one-hour tour you will learn interesting facts about old mining and the miners' working methods.
