With its 600 years of history, the Rüsselsheim Fortress on the banks of the River Main takes you back to the times of princes and mercenaries. A tour of the fortification will allow you to appreciate what life was like behind the metre-thick walls. Located on the inside is the Council of Europe’s award-winning town and industry museum. Here, you can discover another side to the town and one that is certainly no less exciting: Rüsselsheim’s role in the history of the Opel car and the development of one of the most important automobile factories in Europe. After, you can enjoy a well-earned break in the fortress’ café with its fabulous selection of cakes. Real car enthusiasts can go one step further with a guided tour of the Opel factory’s production line or the classic car collection. Art lovers too are well catered for in the neighbouring Opelvillen Art & Culture Foundation.
