Le Grand Hornu

The UNESCO World Heritage Site “Grand Hornu” is an impressive industrial monument that reflects the architecture of the early 19th century. The elegant round arches of the classical-style arcades surrounding an oval square are reminiscent of a Roman amphitheatre. Originally a coal mine with workers' housing, it now offers cultural events and exhibitions in the "Centre for Innovation and Design" and the Museum of Contemporary Art.
