Brown signs in Europe
Historic old towns
Marktplatz 16, 79206 Breisach am Rhein
Quite progressive, these Breisacher: Already 1950, the citizens overwhelmingly favored a united Europe. Since 1964 Breisach bares the official title European city.
The history dates back more than 4,000 years - Celts, Romans and subsequent dynasties appreciated the unique location on the Münsterberg high above the Rhine. Breisach was first mentioned in documents 1650 years ago, making it one of the oldest cities in Germany.
Today the beautiful location in the Rhine plain, between the Black Forest and the Vosges Mountains, is appreciated by inhabitants and visitors alike. Enjoy wonderful views during a walk over the Münsterberg, stroll through the market square or take a boat trip on the Rhine. And be sure to plan a winery tour with champagne and wine tasting.
