Brown signs in Europe
Historic old towns
Rathausplatz 2, 94032 Passau
The Dreiflüsseeck, the place where the three rivers meet, is definitely worth a closer look. The waves of the Danube and Inn join at the so-called "Ortspitze", a headland that closes off Passau's old town like the bow of a ship. The third river, the Ilz, joins them on the left at the foot of the Veste Niederhaus. For quite a distance, the waters show the colours of all three rivers. As a mountain river, the Inn brings particularly bright, often emerald-green shimmering water. The deep black water of the Ilz bears witness to the high mire content it has due to its origin in the Bavarian Forest.
