Close to the Grandsberg and at the foot of the 1095-metre-high Hirschenstein lies the holiday resort of Schwarzach. The region is also renowned for mountain bike tours and a cross-country skiing area.

Even from a distance, the Staffelberg greets you with its distinctive rocky crest. The "Mountain of the Franks" exerts a special, almost mystical fascination.

The Geological Trail in Tännesberg has been educating visitors since 2011. The three-kilometre circular path provides an interesting learning experience about the rock types in East Bavaria such as granite.

The 2.5-million-year-old Devil’s Cave in Pottenstein is like a subterranean parallel world. One of the highlights on the 45-minute guided tour is the so-called ‘Bear Cave’.

Not far from Tirschenreuth’s town centre is the attractive park of the historic Fischhof estate. The area was completely remodelled for the State Garden Show in 2013.

The Tirschenreuth Teichpfanne is an area consisting of around 2500 ponds and small lakes – the largest wetland landscape of its kind in Germany.

The "Steigerwald Centre – experience sustainability" is located on the edge of the forest in Handthal. At the interactive hands-on stations, you can learn interesting facts about the Steigerwald.

A ride with the Wendelstein railway will take you to the top of the 1838-metre-high Wendelstein, one of Upper Bavaria’s prettiest mountains for an excursion.

The King Otto Cave close to the town of Velburg is one of the finest caves in Germany. A shepherd discovered it by chance in 1895 when the fox he was chasing appeared to vanish into the mountain.

The Tennenlohe Forest Adventure Centre in Erlangen takes you on an adventure with nature. The objective of the centre is to provide all sections of the community with clear information on forest habitats.

The Main loop at Volkach is the only place along the river’s course featuring a bow-shaped meander. At the top of the bow is the wine town of Volkach.

High above the Upper Neckar Valley in Starzach the Weitenburg Castle is located. Seat and residence of the family Freiherr von Rassler, with great view of the Neckar Valley and the Swabian Alb, inviting gastronomy and wonderful golf course.
