Welcome to Möckmühl - Historic Old Town
This medieval half-timbered town in the Jagst Valley invites you to linger—whether you’re a “Cultural Hiker along the Jagst” or a “Kocher-Jagst Cyclist.”
Half-timbered houses as far as the eye can see. The medieval town center of Möckmühl is surrounded by a historic city wall with a battlement and towers, which is almost completely preserved.
At the hospitable inns in the old town, not only cyclists but also e-bikes can recharge their batteries.
### City Tours & Local History Museum
At the local history museum and during a city tour—passing the Hexenturm and the castle—you can learn fascinating anecdotes from days gone by.
Do you know the knight with the iron hand? Here in Möckmühl, Götz von Berlichingen ruled as the Duke of Württemberg’s bailiff about 500 years ago. Schiller’s sister Louise lived here after she married the town pastor, Gottlieb Franck.
The local history museum and the city archives lovingly document the history and development of this small town, which is over 1,250 years old. You can also read there about the legend explaining why a millwheel, a buttercup, and a hill are depicted on the city coat of arms.
### Culture Under the Stars – Jagsttalbühne
The Ruchsener Gate, part of the historic city wall, serves as the backdrop for the [Jagsttalbühne](https://www.jagsttalbuehne.de/) performances every June and July.
### Nature & Surroundings
For nature lovers, the **Jagst Valley** is the perfect place to enjoy wonderful views of the rolling countryside, old vineyards, and river valleys on a bike ride or hike.
The Seckach and Hergstbach streams flow into the Jagst from the north—in the idyllic valleys of these two streams, there is plenty of nature to discover, and a short “river tour” can be planned as a day trip along the Kocher-Jagst Cycle Route.
Despite its idyllic landscape, Möckmühl is conveniently located on the A81 between Heilbronn and Würzburg, not far from the Weinsberg interchange and the A6.
