### Eppingen – The 1,000-Year-Old Half-Timbered Town
Eppingen is surrounded by one of the largest contiguous forest areas in Baden-Württemberg and the [Stromberg-Heuchelberg Nature Park](https://www.heilbronnerland.de/area/naturpark-stromberg-heuchelberg). Located directly on the S4 light rail line, it offers quick access to the centers of Heilbronn and Karlsruhe as well as the Rhine-Neckar district.
First mentioned in historical records in 985, yet as early as 5,000 years ago, during the Neolithic era, Linear Pottery culture settlers lived here. The grounds of the 2022 Eppingen Garden Show surround parts of the old town as a small, charming park.

### Hiking, Cycling & Forest Experiences in and around Eppingen
The romantic Jägersee lies at the edge of the Eppinger Hardt forest. The [forest nature trail](https://eppingen-tourismus.de/erlebnisspaziergang/eppinger-waldfuehlpfad/) starts right at Jägersee. Over a distance of 3 km, hikers are invited to smell, hear, and feel the forest. Numerous bike paths and themed bike tours are also signposted around Eppingen.

Approximately 22,500 residents call the seven districts home, with half of this number living in the core city of Eppingen and the other half in the [districts of Adelshofen, Elsenz, Kleingartach, Mühlbach, Richen, and Rohrbach](https://www.eppingen.de/stadt/stadtteile/im-ueberblick). There is also plenty to discover in Eppingen’s six districts. Almost every district has its own “museum branch” that provides information about the unique characteristics of the respective district.
