Varusschlacht im Osnabrücker Land

Welcome to Varusschlacht im Osnabrücker Land

Many years later, the site of the Varus Battle was discovered: research brought several finds to light. They prove that a Roman army was devastatingly defeated at Kalkriese Hill. All this is on display in the Kalkriese Museum and Park. The Varus Battle in the Osnabrück Region GmbH - Museum und Park Kalkriese is a scientific and museum institution designated by the European Union as a European Cultural Heritage Site at the location which, according to scientific knowledge, was the scene of a large-scale battle between Roman and Germanic troops in the time around the birth of Christ. It was the scene of the events of the year 9 AD, which Roman historians recorded as the Battle of Varus. Today Kalkriese is the first ancient battlefield in Europe to be archaeologically investigated.
