As the oldest UNESCO biosphere reserve in Germany, the Thuringian Forest is located in the south of the Free State. The varied landscape of mixed forests, streams, raised bogs and mountain meadows can be explored on numerous hiking trails and adventure paths. The Kickelhahn mountain, which is around 860 metres high, promises expansive views. The traditional art of glass blowing is also presented in the village of Schmiedefeld.
