Stavenhagen owes the title "Reuterstadt" to its most famous child: The poet Fritz Reuter was born here in 1810. Today, Reuter's birthplace is home to a literary museum dedicated to his work, among other things. Sacred artefacts can be viewed in the town church. The synagogue, which has been restored since 2017, also offers insights into the history of the Jewish community.
