Welcome to Mühlen-Freilichtmuseum - Südheide Gifhorn

The open-air museum in Gifhorn is home to 13 full-size mills from countries around the world. The mills come from Greece, Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Russia and Korea.

Your journey into the past and the countries of the world

When you visit the mill museum, you will feel the romance of a bygone era. The gentle heathland is majestically dominated by the slender figure of the Sanssouci Mill, a replica of the famous Potsdam Mill from the time of Frederick the Great. The white mills from Greece and Portugal, together with the sunny yellow of the Spanish mill, exude a Mediterranean flair. The Kellerholländer mill is over 150 years old and stands right at the entrance to the open-air museum. It is joined by the water mill, ship mill and horse mill in the idyllically designed grounds.

In the restaurants in the traditional costume house or in the bakery, in the idyllic beer garden on the Ise with its own jetty, on Lindenplatz and at the Greek mill on Mühlensee lake, special emphasis is placed on high-quality products from producers in the region. It is an ideal excursion destination for families, groups and senior citizens.
