An artists’ colony emerged in the small town of Schwaan at the end of the 19th century. This included Impressionists such as Paul Baum, landscape painter Rudolf Bechstein and etcher Richard Starcke. Works by artists who found inspiration in the rural idyll of Schwaan can be admired today in the art museum. You can also discover the places where famous paintings were created on artist trails.
