The district town of Hoyerswerda is best known for its legend of Krabat, the patron saint of the rural population. The oldest building is the Renaissance castle , which was first mentioned in documents in the 13th century. Today it houses a local history museum with changing exhibitions. In addition, the well-known Hoyerswerda Zoo was built on the site of the former castle park.
