Since 2002, the Ems barrage has been used for flood protection and to maintain shipping traffic on the Ems. This engineering marvel can be viewed in several ways: The information centre offers guided tours of the first bridge of the barrage. Alternatively, you can book a trip on the Ems dreamboat in Leer, which passes through the shipping opening.
