Wanderparkplatz Lindenbrücke, 79235 Weilheim an der Teck
Let's start with one thing: The Limburg is not a castle, but the local mountain of the town of Weilheim an der Teck at the foot of the Swabian Alb. Around 1060 Berthold I of Zähringen built a castle here, but there are no remains of it today. Since the 11th century the Limburg has been used for wine-growing, but in the 19th century it was increasingly replaced by fruit-growing.
The mountain owes its striking, cone-shaped appearance to the former activities of the Swabian volcano. A hike to the 598-metre-high summit of the Limburg provides enjoyable views of the beautiful natural landscape of the pre-alpine region. Especially in April and May, the surrounding orchard meadows with their lush flowers are fascinating. Also worth a visit is the heart of the Zähringer town of Weilheim, which is over twelve hundred and fifty years old, with its charming half-timbered houses around the market square.
