Lichtenberg Castle

Welcome to Lichtenberg Castle

The origin of Lichtenberg Castle, which formerly consisted of two separate castle complexes, dates back to the year 1200.
However, the starting point of the fortress was a clear violation of the former building law. The Counts of Veldenz, who were appointed as secular protectors of the Benedictine monastery of St. Remy, which belonged to the bishopric of Reims, and the surrounding lands, did not have permission to place a castle on the bishops' property. They did it anyway because they not only wanted to guard the land on behalf of the Church, but to own it themselves. Today, as times are more peaceful than in the Middle Ages, there is no longer any danger in approaching the castle. Adventurous visitors can still discover many traces of Lichtenberg Castle's long eventful past in the ruins of the mighty complex.
Two museums, a modern youth hostel and a restaurant are located in the castle complex.
Get married, celebrate, experience, learn.... Lichtenberg Castle offers all of this in a barrier-free setting.
