Bentheim Castle, the largest hilltop castle in north-west Germany, can be visited on your own or as part of a guided tour. Its 30 metre high powder tower promises far-reaching views. In the battery tower, visitors can marvel at a faithfully recreated alchemist's laboratory. St Catherine's Church also has a special treasure trove of art: Here stands the "Lord God of Bentheim": a thousand-year-old statue of Christ.
